Except for two short climbs in the Monts de la Madeleine range during the opening hour of racing out 
of Roanne (population 39,000), there are mainly flat roads on this stage across central France with some rollers in the last 50km before Montluçon (population 44,000). Headwinds might be a problem on this east to west trip.
